10 Apr
Summary
- Seven individuals arrested in connection with the July 2025 deadly fireworks explosion.
- Two Yolo County Sheriff's Department employees are among those arrested.
- A legal loophole allowed a convicted felon to obtain explosives permits.

Seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the fatal fireworks warehouse explosion that occurred on July 1, 2025, in Yolo County. Tragically, seven lives were lost in the blast, with four victims hailing from the Bay Area.
Among the arrested are two property owners who are also employees of the Yolo County Sheriff's Department. The owners of two fireworks companies, Devastating Pyrotechnics and Blackstar Fireworks, have also been apprehended. One owner was arrested in Florida and denies the charges.
An investigation has revealed a potential loophole in California law that appears to have permitted a convicted felon to obtain explosives permits. This is despite a federal ban on such licenses due to his criminal record, as state law did not cover his specific felony conviction.
Cal Fire has since revoked the pyrotechnic licenses of the involved companies and their owners. Additionally, a local farmer had previously filed a lawsuit against the property and fireworks company owners, alleging negligence and seeking damages for crop loss.
