Inmates at Yerawada open jail are reeling after a violent incident on January 5th, where a 62-year-old prisoner was severely beaten by a fellow inmate. The victim, Namdeo Garale, suffered critical injuries, including intracranial bleeding, and his condition remains precarious at Sassoon General Hospital.
The assault took place within Barrack No. 1 of the open jail around 8:30 PM. According to reports, Garale was found unconscious and bleeding after an altercation with another inmate, identified as Fajil Ansari. Medical professionals have described Garale's condition as critical.
Yerawada police have registered a case against Ansari under section 117 of the BNS for voluntarily causing grievous hurt. Ansari has been taken into custody, and law enforcement is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the violent attack within the jail's premises, which currently houses 267 inmates.
