Summary
- A second man was arrested in connection with a murder investigation.
- The investigation links a body discovery to a garage fire and a community center fire.
- Police believe the arson is tied to a dispute within the homeless community.
A second man has been arrested in connection with a murder investigation that began on February 26th, following the discovery of a body at a property on Surman Street in Worcester. The initial arrest involved a 34-year-old man, who has since been released under investigation. The second arrestee, a 35-year-old, was taken into custody on suspicion of murder and grievous bodily harm, and remains in custody as of Wednesday.
The West Mercia Police force has indicated that the death is linked to two separate fires. Emergency services first responded to a garage fire on Surman Street, where the body was found. Subsequently, a second fire was reported at a community center on Stanley Road, approximately one mile away.
Initially, the Worcester Muslim Welfare Association urged authorities to investigate the community center fire as a potential hate crime. However, police have since confirmed that the arson was not racially motivated. Instead, it is believed to be connected to a dispute among individuals experiencing homelessness within the city.
