In a shocking discovery on Sunday evening, a severed head and bloodstained clothes belonging to a 26-year-old woman were found stuffed in a sack near a river in Banka district, Bihar. The victim was identified as Priyanka Kumari, wife of Vikas Pandit, by her distraught father and brother.
Authorities were alerted by villagers after a dog unearthed the head, buried approximately 1.5 feet deep. Priyanka's family has lodged a complaint, suspecting foul play and alleging that she was subjected to torture by her in-laws for failing to produce a male heir.
As a result, Priyanka's husband, Vikas Pandit, his mother Vimla Devi, and his minor sister have been detained for questioning. Police have launched a manhunt for other absconding family members. The search for the victim's torso is ongoing, with forensic teams and a dog squad deployed to the scene.
Prima facie, the incident is being treated as a murder, with preliminary investigations suggesting the woman's throat was slit. The investigation is probing all angles to uncover the full extent of the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice.
