An 18-year-old woman, identified as Roshni alias Rukhsana, was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, Surjeet (20), in Belwa Sudama village, Kushinagar district. The tragic incident occurred early Wednesday when Surjeet allegedly entered her room and fatally stabbed her after she refused to elope.
According to Roshni's family, the couple had been in a three-year relationship, but it was opposed due to their different religious backgrounds. Her family had arranged her marriage to another man, which reportedly angered Surjeet.
Her mother, Razina Khatoon, recounted that Surjeet entered their home, leading to an argument. Roshni's cries for help were heard before the door was locked from the inside. Family and villagers broke down the door to find her severely injured.
Villagers pursued and apprehended Surjeet as he attempted to escape. He was beaten by the crowd before being handed over to the police. The Superintendent of Police confirmed the arrest and ongoing questioning, stating the accused was upset over the victim's impending marriage elsewhere.
