In Sebring, a welfare check on a woman experiencing mental distress took a violent and tragic turn. Responding officers were initially met with threats from the woman, who warned they would be attacked by her dogs and threatened to detonate an oxygen tank. Amidst the escalating chaos, the woman allegedly used a lighter to set fire to a responding officer's hair, though it was extinguished without causing injury.
Following the woman's arrest, a "pop sound" was heard from within the home. Officers discovered the woman's husband on the floor, having sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased shortly after.
The woman now faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated arson and assault, along with misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and aggravated menacing. She also reportedly made threats towards future inmates in jail.
