A woman in Whitstable, Kent, suffered horrific injuries when a man she had taken into her home attacked her with boiling sugar water and a hammer. Sarah Tragner, 49, was scalded from knee to bottom and hit on the head in the early hours of Sunday, July 27. The dangerous sugar water mixture is known to cause severe, long-lasting skin damage.
Tragner believes the attack occurred because Gillham realized she wanted him to leave her home. Despite her injuries, she managed to call emergency services. While she was being treated, Gillham returned to the property and assaulted a police officer who had remained at the scene.
Christopher Gillham was later sentenced to 10 years in prison at Woolwich Crown Court for grievous bodily harm with intent. He also received a 15-year restraining order. Tragner, who met Gillham on Facebook and offered him shelter after a difficult period in her life, expressed her ongoing trauma and fear that he would harm someone else if released.
