Megan Murphy, 31, repeatedly drove over Darryl Tomlinson, 31, who had collapsed in the road after a night out. Murphy claimed she didn't see him but later told a friend she had reversed over him, referring to him as a 'smackhead'.
Mr. Tomlinson, who was reportedly drunk and had potentially taken cocaine and cannabis, fell in the street around 3:19 AM. He made calls for assistance, with a friend describing him as very drunk and disoriented.
In a critical failure, neither the ambulance service nor the police could locate Mr. Tomlinson despite being notified. A separate inquiry into the emergency services' conduct is ongoing.
Murphy emerged from her property and attempted to clear her windscreen before driving her Citroen DS3. CCTV captured her driving forward, stopping, and then reversing over Mr. Tomlinson's body twice.
Witnesses attempted to alert Murphy, but she proceeded to drive over the victim. She was later heard saying, "I didn't see him." Mr. Tomlinson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mr. Tomlinson's parents expressed profound grief and anger, holding both Murphy and the emergency services accountable for his death. They described him as a loving son and friend.
