A disabled woman has been rescued from a Houston mansion where she was allegedly held captive for five years. Authorities discovered the victim had been confined to a bedroom, surviving on meager rations, including as little as one egg per day. Her husband, James Earl Johnson, 46, has been arrested and charged with injury to a disabled individual and endangering a child, elderly, or disabled individual.
The harrowing ordeal came to light when Johnson reportedly left his phone unattended, allowing his wife to make a brief 911 call. However, Johnson allegedly intervened, ending the call before police could fully respond. Investigators found the victim lacked access to a phone, consistent food, and adequate medical care.
Court documents reveal the woman had previously attempted to alert authorities, including a police visit in November 2026 where she was instructed to remain silent. Johnson, a master electrician earning approximately $18,000 monthly, purchased the $1 million home in 2015. He was released on a $50,000 bond and ordered to stay away from the victim.
