An Illinois woman, Marcy Oglesby, has received a 50-year prison sentence for the first-degree murder of retired Maquon Police Chief Richard Young. Prosecutors detailed how Oglesby administered eye drops to poison Young's food and beverages over several months in 2021. This prolonged poisoning ultimately led to his death on November 1, 2021.
Following Young's death, Oglesby concealed his body in a storage unit situated directly across from their shared residence. It took nearly a year, until October 7, 2022, for Young's decomposed remains to be discovered. Oglesby had claimed the relationship was against her will and denied the murder during her trial.
Young, affectionately known as "Rick the Cop," was remembered as a dedicated public servant and a helpful community member. His friend expressed that justice was served, providing a voice for Young. The conviction included charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery by administering a dangerous substance.
