18 Feb
Summary
- Woman drowned niece, attacked mother and other children.
- Incident stemmed from a dispute over her relationship.
- Accused used sedative-laced food and tea prior to attack.

In Muzaffarnagar's Shahpur area, a disturbing incident unfolded early Tuesday when a 25-year-old woman allegedly took the life of her four-year-old niece and critically injured her sister-in-law and three other children. The accused, Mana, reportedly acted out of anger over her family's interference in her relationship and their arrangement of her marriage to another man.
Mana confessed to using sedative pills, procured eight days prior, to lace the family's food and tea on Monday night. This subdued them, allowing her to carry out the violent acts. Her four-year-old niece was found drowned in a water tank, while her sister-in-law sustained multiple stab wounds. Three other children also suffered injuries while attempting to intervene.
