Ann Browning, 54, has been convicted of the murder of pensioner Bill Williamson, whom she groomed for years before killing him for his money. The crime gained notoriety as Williamson was allegedly asked by Browning to dig the very hole in her garden that would become his grave. This shocking detail emerged as police investigated Williamson's disappearance in September 2010.
Williamson, an 82-year-old former postman, was reported missing when he failed to attend medical appointments. Suspicion quickly fell on Browning, who was significantly younger and with whom Williamson had recently moved. Investigations revealed Browning had persuaded Williamson to sell his £250,000 house to start a new life together.
Browning's deception unraveled when she lied about Williamson's whereabouts and was caught using his bank card. Police found blood spots and a diary entry stating 'RIP' on the day Williamson disappeared. Her solicitor eventually revealed she would confess, leading police to discover Williamson's body buried in her garden.
Financial investigators also uncovered a pattern of exploitation, with Williamson changing his will to favor Browning and significant sums of money withdrawn from joint accounts. Browning was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life, with a minimum of 25 years. She died in prison in November 2025.
