In Jassian, a 28-year-old woman named Twinkle was allegedly subjected to a brutal assault and dragged by her hair on the road by her husband and four of his family members. This incident occurred on Saturday, October 25, 2026, following escalating demands for dowry, initially for a Thar SUV and subsequently for a motorcycle.
According to Twinkle's complaint, her husband Ritesh Verma and his family harassed her, questioning her ability to afford a motorcycle despite her earnings from a salon business. Tensions reportedly peaked when Twinkle sought refuge at a neighbor's house, only for Ritesh to allegedly follow her, drag her onto the street, and assault her. Neighboring residents intervened after hearing her distress.
CCTV footage has been submitted to the police, purportedly capturing the assault, which includes slapping, hair-pulling, dragging, and kicking. The couple married in November of the previous year, having met during proceedings related to Twinkle's first marriage, with whom she has a seven-year-old son. Despite a previous mediation over a Thar vehicle, the dispute resurfaced with the demand for a motorcycle. Police are currently conducting raids to apprehend the accused.
