Wiz Khalifa Gets Jail Time in Romania
19 Dec
Summary
- Wiz Khalifa received a nine-month jail sentence in Romania.
- The sentence is for illegal drug possession and consumption.
- Romanian authorities may not seek extradition due to his U.S. citizenship.

In a significant legal development, rapper Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, has been handed a nine-month jail sentence by a Romanian court. This sentence, handed down on December 18, 2025, concludes a case initiated over a year ago following his arrest at the 'Beach, Please!' festival in Costinesti, Romania, in July 2024. He was found to be in possession of over 18 grams of cannabis and admitted to consuming some during his performance.
The Constanta Court of Appeal deemed the sentence necessary, stating that Khalifa's "ostentatious conduct" amplified the social danger of drug offenses. Judges noted that his actions transmitted a message normalizing illegal conduct and implicitly encouraging drug consumption among young people. This ruling overturned a lower court's decision in April 2025, which had imposed a smaller criminal fine of 3,600 lei ($830), a decision prosecutors successfully appealed for a more stringent penalty.
