Savitri Munda, from Kochbong village, has transformed her traumatic experience of being branded a 'dain' or witch into a powerful mission. Nearly a decade ago, following the deaths of her husband's cousins, villagers falsely accused her of witchcraft, demanding a large sum to revoke the accusation. These allegations were rooted in a scheme by distant relatives to seize her 13 acres of land.
Her husband suffered severe mental trauma requiring hospitalization due to the harassment. With support from the Association for Social and Human Awareness (ASHA), Savitri overcame the ordeal and rebuilt her life. She now operates a successful pig farming business.
Today, Savitri is a vocal advocate against witch-hunting. She actively works with ASHA and authorities, intervening in cases to protect women. She participates in panchayat meetings and national seminars, sharing her story and raising awareness about this harmful practice. Savitri is committed to preventing other women from enduring similar fates.
