Stanley Pophal, 64, of Wausau, Wisconsin, has pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering charges. He defrauded 190 investors out of $14.25 million between May 2019 and June 2025. Pophal operated under business names Bright with Silver, Inc., formerly Fromm Bros., Inc.
Investors were promised returns of at least 20% on investments in cryptocurrency, real estate, AI technology, gold, silver, and emeralds. Pophal falsely claimed to have vast personal wealth to guarantee their principal. He used new investor money to pay earlier investors, a classic Ponzi scheme tactic.
The defrauded funds were used to finance Pophal's lifestyle, including mortgage payments, private jet rentals, vehicles, motorcycles, and hundreds of snowmobiles. Law enforcement seized over 600 items purchased with investor money, including a large quantity of snowmobiles stored in a rented warehouse.
Pophal agreed to forfeit the seized assets as part of his plea agreement. Sentencing is scheduled for September 2, 2026. The FBI had previously sought victims of the scheme, noting investments from Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Florida, Texas, Arizona, Indiana, and California.
