Michael J. Hurlburt, 27, has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of his mother, Lisa M. Bragg-Hurlburt, 56. The fatal stabbing occurred on Friday at her home in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Hurlburt allegedly confessed to the killing, stating he stabbed his mother approximately 44 times after visiting a Dairy Queen.
During his confession, Hurlburt reportedly mentioned believing he was being gang-stalked by U.S. Government and Chinese agencies, which he claimed influenced his actions. He also expressed resentment towards his mother for her role in his upbringing. Prior to this incident, Hurlburt had faced charges including terrorist threats and telephone harassment, related to social media posts about a school shooting and threats against a superintendent.
Lisa M. Bragg-Hurlburt was the director of the Colfax Public Library. A GoFundMe campaign described her as an advocate for those in need, an artist, and a creative individual with a quirky sense of humor. Hurlburt is currently held on a $1 million bond, with his next court appearance scheduled for July.
