In a significant operation, the Sindhudurg local crime branch (LCB) arrested four individuals on Friday at Anavkarwadi area of Ranbambuli village. The arrests were made in connection with the smuggling of rare wildlife parts. Authorities seized pangolin scales and sambar horns, along with two two-wheelers, with the total value of the seized items estimated at Rs 92 lakh.
A case has been registered at Sindhudurg Police Station under relevant sections of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The seized items included 1.8 kg of Indian pangolin scales and two sambar horns. This action was initiated after the LCB received confidential information regarding illegal trade in wildlife parts.
Further investigations are underway to identify other accomplices and to ascertain the full extent of the wildlife crime network. The operation was conducted under the guidance of senior police officials and executed by a dedicated team from the LCB, demonstrating a strong commitment to combating wildlife trafficking.
