Police in Siddharthnagar have cracked the case of Harishchandra's murder, arresting his wife, Maya Devi, her alleged lover, Niyaz Ahmad, and two accomplices. The victim was allegedly killed as part of a conspiracy hatched due to domestic disputes and an extramarital affair. Investigators revealed that Niyaz Ahmad allegedly paid ₹1.10 lakh to hired individuals to carry out the murder. The plan involved luring Harishchandra to a ghat on the night of August 30, stabbing him, and then throwing his body into the Budhi Rapti river. To further the deception, the victim's e-rickshaw was positioned near the riverbank, simulating an accidental fall. However, post-mortem results and subsequent technical evidence, interrogations, and recovery of the murder weapon led police to uncover the planned nature of the killing. Additional sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita concerning criminal conspiracy and evidence destruction have been invoked.
