Jennifer Lieber, 47, received a 25-year prison sentence on Tuesday for the second-degree murder of her cousin and lover, David Nanovic. The fatal incident took place in March 2024 at Lieber's $1.7 million mansion in Prior Lake, a wealthy Minneapolis suburb. The night was characterized by violence, reportedly fueled by blackberry brandy.
Lieber's estranged husband, an airline pilot, called 911 requesting a welfare check, reporting his wife was acting erratically. Deputies found Nanovic dead inside the home. While Lieber claimed the shooting was accidental, Nanovic's ten-year-old son told police Lieber threatened them with a gun after an argument.
The boy recounted that Lieber pursued his father outside the home and fired the fatal shot. Nanovic's son described their home life as 'living in hell,' alleging abuse by Lieber. A jury convicted Lieber of second-degree murder on January 30, 2026. She will serve 17 years in prison and the remainder on supervised release.
