A Salisbury woman, Yorleni Shoff, 58, has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of her 93-year-old husband, Richard Shoff. He succumbed to severe head injuries sustained in an assault on April 9 within their home. Responding deputies discovered signs of a significant struggle and recovered a broken vase, believed to be the instrument of the attack.
Initially, Yorleni Shoff was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury, and domestic violence. She was released on a $500,000 bond on April 17. However, the following day, detectives were informed of Richard Shoff's death at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
