Margaret Louise Rog, a 75-year-old woman from West Virginia, is facing serious charges following the death of her 76-year-old husband. Rog was arrested on September 15 and charged with "abuse, neglect, or grossly neglect an incapacitated adult creating a substantial risk of serious bodily injury or death."
According to a criminal complaint, Rog's husband, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, dementia, and other conditions, was left on the toilet for approximately 19 hours starting on August 20. Investigators allege that Rog failed to provide him with food, water, or medication and did not seek assistance even when she heard him groaning in pain.
A speech therapist discovered the husband unresponsive on August 21, prompting an ambulance call. He was in critical condition with heart and respiratory failure and passed away 11 days later, on August 31. Rog has pleaded not guilty and posted a $75,000 bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 25.
