West Northamptonshire Council is intensifying efforts to combat a significant rise in fly-tipping incidents across the region. In the last recorded year, the council documented 22,769 instances of illegal waste dumping, an increase from the 17,000 recorded in the 2023-24 period. This trend is a slight improvement from the 2024-25 period, which saw an even higher 22,923 incidents.
The council is actively seeking community involvement to bring offenders to justice. Residents are encouraged to provide any available footage from doorbell cameras, CCTV systems, or dashcams that could aid in identifying the perpetrators. This collaborative approach aims to deter further illegal dumping and hold those responsible accountable.
Analysis of the data reveals a concentration of the problem within Northampton town centre. The five streets with the most reported fly-tipping incidents are all located in the town centre. Furthermore, the wards experiencing the highest number of fly-tipping reports are also situated within Northampton, with Castle ward alone recording 4,178 incidents, followed by Talavera and Abington wards.
