A groom has reached a final settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit filed after his bride was killed by a drunk driver on their wedding night. The incident occurred on April 28, 2023, in Folly Beach, South Carolina, when the newlyweds were being transported in a golf cart. Jamie Lee Komoroski, who was heavily intoxicated and driving at 65 mph, rear-ended the golf cart, resulting in the bride's death.
The settlement, approved on December 9, includes $160,000 from Komoroski's vehicle insurer, with the groom receiving a portion after legal fees. Additional settlements were previously approved with several South Carolina bars, Progressive Auto Insurance, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. In total, the groom was awarded approximately $863,300.
The bride tragically passed away at age 34 from blunt force injuries. The groom also sustained severe injuries, including broken legs and facial fractures, requiring multiple surgeries. Two other family members were injured in the collision. Komoroski pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison for DUI causing death and other related charges.
