Virginia Nurse Gets 3 Years for Infant Injuries

A former nurse in Virginia has received a three-year prison sentence for harming nine premature infants. Erin Strotman was convicted of causing "unexplained fractures" to the babies while they were in the intensive care unit at Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond.

Strotman, 27, pleaded no contest in January 2026 to nine counts of child abuse. The incidents, which involved babies suffering limb fractures, occurred between the summer of 2023 and November 2024. Footage allegedly captured Strotman applying pressure to a baby's legs, forcing his feet to his head.

During her sentencing hearing on June 5, 2026, Strotman apologized to the families, stating she never intended to harm the children and was using a gas-relief technique. Her defense lawyers requested home confinement, which was denied. She may be eligible for early release for good behavior.
