In Virginia Beach, a recent curfew enforcement operation on March 7 and March 8 led to the custody of 37 minors. This operation, conducted by the Virginia Beach Police Department in the Oceanfront Resort area, occurred following a shooting on Atlantic Avenue.
Of the 37 minors detained, 34 were released to their parents without warnings. However, three were arrested and held at the Virginia Beach Juvenile Detention Center, facing numerous charges. Notably, two of these minors were found to be illegally carrying firearms.
The city has officially moved its nightly curfew for unaccompanied minors (under 18) one hour earlier, from 11 p.m. to 10 p.m. This restriction, effective until 5 a.m. in public places, seeks to curb late-night incidents and bolster safety as spring and summer approach. Violations will be treated as a Class 4 misdemeanor.
