A moving vigil was held in Blackpool to commemorate the life of Preston Davey, a toddler who tragically died due to severe abuse. Approximately 150 mourners traveled from Scotland, Kent, and Wales to pay their respects.
Preston's adoptive father, Jamie Varley, was sentenced to a whole life term for inflicting "unremitting abuse" culminating in fatal injuries. His partner, John Fazakerley, received a 25-year sentence for allowing the child's death and sexual abuse.
As part of the observance, the Blackpool Tower was illuminated in blue. Attendees, including Preston's birth parents, laid flowers, cards, and toys in his memory.
Government-ordered reviews are examining the roles of Oldham Council and Blackpool Victoria Hospital in relation to the child's care. A Child Safeguarding Practice Review is also underway into various agencies involved with Preston.
