Jiaying Chen, a 33-year-old woman, has been sentenced to nearly a year in the Clark County Detention Center for orchestrating a marriage fraud scheme. She married 14 men in Las Vegas, using her victims' funds to fuel a significant gambling addiction. Chen would quickly propose marriage to men she met online, request money often for a sick family member in China, and then cease contact.
Her crimes, which occurred between March 2019 and May 2024, involved obtaining multiple marriage certificates under her own name and an alias, Vicky Liang. After her arrest, she was released but continued the fraudulent activities. Chen reportedly lost over $300,000 at a Las Vegas casino in the past year alone. Judge Crystal Eller ordered Chen to pay over $280,000 in restitution, emphasizing the punishment's role in addressing her addiction and deterring future offenses.
