An 84-year-old man, Gabriel Coutinho, tragically died by suicide on September 28, 2026, by jumping in front of a local train at Naigaon railway station. His purported suicide note accused Sham (45) and his associate Sagar of severe physical and mental harassment, leading him to take this extreme step.
Following a complaint by the deceased's daughter, Rupa Chirayat, Bhayander railway police have registered an abetment of suicide case against Sham and Sagar. Rupa alleged that Sham had subjected their father to continuous abuse and harassment over petty issues for years. A prior case was registered against Sham in March 2022 for unlawful entry and damage to household articles after he allegedly entered Gabriel's house, which had been transferred to his daughters in 2021.
Despite Gabriel renting a new home, Rupa stated that Sham continued to harass him, allegedly denying him food, restricting his movement, and assaulting him. A video circulating on social media purportedly showed Sham assaulting his father through a window. Before his death, Gabriel entrusted Rupa with a bag containing the suicide note, expressing his despair over the relentless harassment.
