Sewer Sabotage: Varanasi Lines Packed With Sand Sacks!
13 Sep
Summary
- Sand, stones, and plastic waste found stuffed in Varanasi sewer lines.
- Mayor Ashok Tiwari suspects a major conspiracy behind the blockages.
- A case of mischief by inundation has been registered by police.
In Varanasi, cleaning operations have uncovered a shocking discovery: main sewer lines in several wards were found packed with sacks of sand, sawdust, stones, plywood, and plastic waste. The Varanasi Nagar Nigam reported that around 12 sacks of sand alone were removed from lines in the Shivala area. Mayor Ashok Tiwari stated that these deliberate blockages, which caused sewage to overflow and disrupt daily life, suggest a significant conspiracy requiring thorough investigation.
Taking the matter seriously, the Jalkal Department of the Varanasi Nagar Nigam filed a formal complaint. Police have registered a case under Section 326(c) of the BNS against unidentified persons for mischief by inundation. Officials are examining CCTV footage from the affected areas to identify those responsible. Municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal suspects anti-social elements are behind the act and has urged residents to report any tampering with sewer lines or public property.
