A tragic incident unfolded on Monday in Varanasi, India, as a 40-year-old man named Dhani Maurya allegedly killed his 35-year-old wife, Suman alias Sumitra, before taking his own life.
According to the police, the couple was engaged in a heated argument at their home in the Lohamandi area under the Katra Kotwali police station. The dispute reportedly turned violent, and Maurya, who worked as a Chinese cuisine cook at a local hotel, stabbed his wife Suman in the chest with a knife, killing her instantly.
Hearing Suman's screams, neighbors rushed to the scene, but by then, Maurya had already fled. He later died by suicide, jumping in front of a moving train near the Lanka Pahadi area in the Dehat police station jurisdiction.
Both Maurya and Suman were pronounced dead at the scene, and their bodies were sent for postmortem examination. The Katra Kotwali police station officer, Vaidyanath Singh, stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic incident.
The community in Varanasi has been left in shock and mourning following the devastating loss of the couple's lives.
