A 65-year-old traditional medicine practitioner, known locally as a 'hakim,' has been arrested in Varanasi. The arrest occurred on Wednesday after a nine-year-old girl accused him of rape and assault. The victim’s elder sister filed a complaint with the Kotwali police, leading to the registration of an FIR under relevant sections of law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The incident reportedly took place early Wednesday morning when the accused, a neighbor of the victim’s family, lured the child to his home. The minor lives with her father and four siblings, as her mother has passed away. Upon learning of her ordeal from the child, her family members and local residents apprehended the accused and handed him over to the police.
