Vaniyambadi Recovers Public Land From Encroachers
1 Aug
Summary
- Vaniyambadi municipality removed illegal structures from government land.
- The retrieved land is designated Open Space Reservation for a children's park.
- A public water tank was restored, and fencing will prevent future trespassing.

In a decisive action on Friday, Vaniyambadi municipality officials demolished illegal constructions on a 570 sq. ft. government-owned plot in Perumalpettai. This land, designated as Open Space Reservation (OSR) over two decades ago for a children's park, had been used as a community playground and housed a public water tank.
Residents had voiced strong opposition to individuals attempting to illegally occupy the open space. Their concerns led to an inspection by civic staff, revealing damage to the water tank and a civic body name board. Following this, the municipality reinstalled a new water tank and name boards.
Looking ahead, the municipality plans to fence the entire open plot to prevent further trespassing. Development into a children's park is scheduled for the coming months, featuring tiled walkways, play equipment, seating, washrooms, and CCTV cameras for enhanced safety.
