Life Sentence Stands: Accused Denied Bail
19 Aug
Summary
- Three convicts denied bail by Uttarakhand High Court.
- They were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.
- Appeals against conviction remain pending for further hearing.

The Uttarakhand High Court on Wednesday dismissed the bail applications of three individuals convicted in the 2022 murder of a 19-year-old receptionist. Pulkit Arya, Saurabh Bhaskar, and Ankit Gupta, who were sentenced to life imprisonment, sought release while their appeals against the conviction are pending.
A division bench of the High Court heard arguments from the convicts over two days. The court ultimately denied them bail, stating their appeals would remain pending for further deliberation.
The three were convicted on May 30 of the previous year by the Additional District and Sessions Judge in Kotdwar. They were found guilty of murdering the receptionist and destroying evidence. The victim, who worked at a resort near Rishikesh, went missing on September 18, 2022, and her body was found on September 24.
The prosecution successfully argued that the evidence conclusively proved the involvement of Arya, the resort owner and son of a BJP leader, along with Bhaskar and Gupta, in the crime. All three have been incarcerated since their arrest.
