Friends of University of South Florida (USF) doctoral students Nahida Bristy and Zamil Limon remembered them as cherished family members away from home. Both students, originally from Bangladesh, came to Tampa to further their studies. Their former roommate, Hisham Abugharbieh, was arrested on Friday and subsequently charged with first-degree murder.
Limon's remains were discovered last Friday, with additional unidentified remains found over the weekend. Abugharbieh, 26, faces multiple charges including murder, tampering with evidence, and false imprisonment. He is being held without bond. The USF Bangladeshi community has come together, with the Bangladesh Student Association acting as a liaison for the university's support in preserving Limon's remains according to Islamic rites.
Hillsborough County State Attorney Susan Lopez stated that the case will proceed to a grand jury in the coming weeks to determine if the death penalty will be sought. Community members expressed their faith in the legal system and their hope for justice for Bristy and Limon, who were described as a "modest and polite boy" and a "lovely girl."
