US-Wanted Engineer Caught in India for Maryland Murder Case

Arjun Sharma, a 27-year-old software engineer from Chennai, was apprehended in Agra on August 24, 2026, by a police team from Telangana. He is wanted by US authorities for the alleged murder of his former girlfriend, Nikitha Godishala, in Maryland on December 31, 2025. Sharma had been hiding in an apartment in Agra when he was captured.
The arrest followed an Interpol Red Corner Notice and an extradition appeal from the US. According to an FIR registered in Secunderabad, Sharma allegedly stabbed Nikitha to death in his Maryland apartment after persuading her to visit under the guise of repaying $4,000. He then reportedly siphoned funds from her credit card and fled to India on January 2, 2026.
US police discovered Nikitha's body in Sharma's apartment on January 3, 2026. Following the US investigation, American authorities charged Sharma with murder and assault. A Delhi court had previously issued an arrest warrant for Sharma, acknowledging that the charges meet the criteria for extradition under the India-US Extradition Treaty. Evidence and extradition proceedings are currently underway.
