The Uttar Pradesh Police have reported an impressive 81% success rate in their statewide campaign to trace missing persons, with a strong focus on women and children. This initiative, directed by Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna, has yielded significant results.
Between January 1, 2024, and January 18, 2026, a total of 1,08,372 missing persons cases were registered across the state. Recognizing discrepancies in recovery status updates, a comprehensive verification and tracing drive was ordered to accurately reflect the number of individuals found.
As of February 18, 2026, out of the 1,08,372 registered missing persons, 88,022 have been successfully located. To sustain this progress, a multi-layered strategy has been implemented, including immediate investigations upon receiving reports and monthly special campaigns at the district level.
The strategy also involves deploying specialized teams for suspected organized crime cases and transferring human trafficking evidence to anti-human trafficking cells. The Yaksh App will enhance real-time information dissemination for faster field-level action.
