Nearly four decades ago, on January 22, 1986, a devastating arson fire claimed the lives of three young children in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Franklin David Isler, aged 9, Taira Marie Isler, aged 8, and Lanny Ray Isler, aged 6, died from smoke inhalation after a fire at their North Gallatin Avenue home. Their 10-year-old brother, Mark Anthony Isler, managed to escape the blaze. The fire was definitively ruled an act of arson, with investigators finding gasoline samples at the residence.
The children's parents were not home when the fire ignited and were later charged with involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment due to negligence. However, state police emphasized there was never any indication they were involved in the arson itself. The parents accepted a plea deal in 1989 and were released from prison in the early 1990s.
