In the early hours of Sunday, February 15, 2026, the Rhode Island State Police apprehended two drivers for traveling the wrong way on Interstate 95. These incidents occurred within a few hours of each other, highlighting a dangerous trend.
The first wrong-way driver, a 21-year-old woman from Coventry, was stopped around 1:20 a.m. near Exit 21 in East Greenwich. She was allegedly driving northbound on I-95 South and failed sobriety tests, leading to charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence.
Later, around 4:50 a.m., authorities responded to another report of a wrong-way driver on I-95 South, this time near Exit 4 in Hopkinton. The 35-year-old driver, from New London, Connecticut, also failed sobriety tests and faced charges including driving under the influence, reckless driving, and a weapons offense.
These two arrests were part of a larger enforcement effort, with six additional drivers being arrested for driving under the influence on the same night.
