- The murders occurred while the women were sleeping in the front verandah.
Two women, identified as former sarpanch Indumati Ladkat, aged 75, and her relative Krishnabai Ladkat, 55, were found deceased in their residence in Sherechiwadi, Baramati. The tragic discovery was made on Tuesday morning by Krishnabai's granddaughter, who found the women in a blood-soaked state. The police have reported that both victims sustained fatal injuries to their throats, inflicted by a sharp weapon.
Initial police assessments point towards robbery as the primary motive for the killings. It was noted that the women's gold jewelry was missing from the premises. However, a thorough inspection of the house indicated that no other valuables or items were taken. The victims had reportedly gone to sleep in the front verandah of Indumati's house after attending a village program on Monday evening. They were found to have locked the house from the outside before retiring for the night. A case has been registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and investigations are ongoing with police pursuing several leads.
