Second Autopsy Contradicts Assault Claims in Model's Death

A second post-mortem examination by an AIIMS Delhi medical board has concluded that Twisha Sharma died from ante-mortem hanging, using a gymnastic belt recovered from her residence. The report, obtained by The Indian Express, states there were no injuries on Sharma's body suggestive of an assault prior to her death.

This finding is significant as Twisha's family had alleged manipulation of the first post-mortem conducted at AIIMS Bhopal. The initial report from Bhopal noted "two parallel ligature marks" and other injuries, but stated the alleged nylon belt was not presented during the examination, hindering scientific correlation.

Sharma, a former Miss Pune and model-turned-actor, was found deceased at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12, 2026, less than six months after her wedding to advocate Samarth Singh. The case, initially registered as a dowry death, was transferred to the CBI due to allegations of investigative lapses.

The CBI's chargesheet reportedly suggests that Sharma's husband and his mother subjected her to mental cruelty, leading her to end her life. Investigators are examining her phone for evidence related to dowry death allegations. Sharma's family claimed she faced abuse and pressure regarding her pregnancy, and subsequently, a planned abortion.

According to investigators, Sharma's relationship with her husband was tumultuous, marked by arguments, alleged drug use by him, and distress over her pregnancy. She reportedly expressed feelings of being driven to madness and unable to cope.

In the hours before her death, Sharma communicated her distress to her sister-in-law, reporting pain and bleeding after a medical procedure, and later sent a final message indicating a desire to die in peace.
