A chilling true crime documentary, "Skegness Psycho: 28 Miles to Murder," investigates the tragic deaths of Bethany Vincent and her son DJ in May 2021. Daniel Boulton, Bethany's ex-partner, embarked on a 28-mile journey from Skegness to Louth, Lincolnshire, culminating in the brutal stabbing of Bethany nine times and her nine-year-old son, DJ, fourteen times. Boulton received a life sentence with a 40-year minimum term in February 2022.
The investigation highlights systemic failures, revealing that parole officers, police, and health services were aware of Boulton's violent past and deteriorating behavior. Despite this knowledge, breakdowns in multi-agency communication and risk management prevented them from ensuring Bethany and her family's safety. Bethany's mother, who appears in the program, has publicly shared her grief.
Boulton exhibited controlling behavior and harbored an irrational hatred for DJ, blaming the autistic child for relationship issues. He sent Bethany approximately 900 threatening messages, including a sinister "nightmare on Holme Street" warning. After the killings, he attacked an off-duty officer before being apprehended near Louth. A jury rejected his defense of dissocial personality disorder, convicting him of murder.
