Domestic Violence Escalates to Triple Murder-Suicide
12 Mar
Summary
- Man murdered estranged wife, her parents, then died by suicide.
- Prior domestic violence charges were not prosecuted for pretrial detention.
- Divorce case was dismissed before the fatal rampage occurred.

Vaughn Stewart committed a horrific act of violence, murdering his estranged wife, Deonna Stewart, and her parents, Allan and Michelle Russell, at their Berkeley Township home on March 12, 2026. Authorities reported that Stewart then died by suicide after the rampage, which also saw him kill his wife approximately 50 yards from the residence. His three children were discovered unharmed within the in-laws' home during the early morning incident.
Stewart had a history of domestic issues. He was arrested on February 11, 2026, for allegedly assaulting Deonna, making terroristic threats, and harassment at a convenience store. Prosecutors did not seek pretrial detention for him following his initial hearing. His divorce from Deonna had been filed on April 4, 2024, but the case was dismissed on January 24, 2025.
This was not Stewart's only encounter with the law. In June 2017, he was acquitted of serious charges, including terroristic threats and aggravated assault. He also pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace in November 2024 for a March 2024 obstruction charge, resulting in a $333 fine. Stewart's prior legal proceedings and the ultimate dismissal of his divorce case precede the devastating events of March 12, 2026.
