- Victim assaulted with billhooks for objecting to substance abuse.

Residents of Subramaniyapuram in Trichy took to the streets Friday night, protesting against a gang of seven individuals involved in narcotic substance abuse and public intimidation. The protest followed a recent assault on S Yesudoss, 47, who had confronted the group about their substance use near his home two weeks prior.
On Thursday night, the intoxicated gang reportedly vandalized Yesudoss's home, verbally abused him, and assaulted him with billhooks, causing injuries to his fingers. He was subsequently admitted to Trichy government hospital. Following his complaint, police arrested five members of the alleged gang.
After Yesudoss was discharged, he, his family, and other residents blocked the Trichy-Pudukkottai Road, voicing concerns about pervasive substance abuse and threats from addicted individuals. Protesters also criticized the police for insufficient action. Officials engaged with the demonstrators, assuring them of swift arrests for the remaining suspects and a commitment to curbing narcotics use in the area, which led to the withdrawal of the protest.
