Nine people, including seven minors, have been arrested in Trichy under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The arrests stem from the alleged sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl.
The girl was reported missing by her mother on May 14. She was found on June 4 and subsequently handed over to the child welfare committee. During counselling, she disclosed that she had been sexually abused by individuals she met on social media.
The Child Welfare Committee reported the abuse to the Fort AWPS police. Following the girl's statements, the case was altered to include charges under the POCSO Act. Two adults, aged 19 and 20, were arrested, while the seven minors have been sent to a juvenile home in Thanjavur. Police are actively searching for one additional accused who remains at large.
