On November 3, 2025, the decomposed body of a 22-year-old youth, Anil Chauhan, was recovered from a deep forest well in Chandigarh's Sector 53. Anil, originally from Budhlada in Mansa district, had been missing for over two weeks.
According to investigators, Anil was attacked with a meat cleaver and his body was dumped in the 15-20-foot-deep well. Police believe the crime was orchestrated by the brother of the girl Anil was in a relationship with, along with his accomplices.
Anil had been living on rent in Mohali's Kumbhra village and working at a store in Phase 9. He was last seen on October 19, 2025. The police have arrested three to four suspects in connection with the case, which they suspect is related to a love affair gone tragically wrong.
Sources reveal that Anil had been warned by the girl's family to end the relationship. Though he distanced himself for a while, the two had reportedly resumed contact recently, which may have triggered the fatal attack. The accused allegedly made Anil consume alcohol before killing him and disposing of the body.
