31 Oct
Summary
- Tiffany James shot and killed by ex-partner Darryl Eugene Williams
- Incident occurred in 2015 as James and daughters were returning home from trick-or-treating
- Williams sentenced to prison, avoiding further trauma to daughters

On Halloween night in 2015, Tiffany James and her twin daughters were returning home from trick-or-treating when tragedy struck. Just steps from their apartment in Brandon, Florida, James was shot and killed by her ex-partner, Darryl Eugene Williams, who was dressed in a costume resembling Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th.
The horrific incident was witnessed by Williams' girlfriend, who was seated in a car nearby. Police were alerted by a neighbor who heard the gunshots and saw the costumed figure standing over James' body. One of the daughters was found bloodied and terrified at the scene.
Investigators initially struggled to connect Williams to the crime, as he refused to cooperate. However, his girlfriend's testimony helped police charge him with first-degree murder. Court records revealed a history of tension and abuse in the relationship, with both James and Williams seeking protective orders against each other over the years.
Though Williams was charged with murder, he later accepted a plea deal to avoid further traumatizing the twin daughters. "To avoid any more damage to the girls, I think that avoiding placing them on the stand and putting them back in that situation was the better alternative," said James' brother Humphrey. Williams is currently serving time in prison and is scheduled for release in 2035.
