On Monday, November 13th, 2025, a devastating incident occurred in Dadhi village, Jalaun district, Kanpur. A 27-year-old woman, Aarti, tragically took her own life and that of her two young daughters in a horrific fire.
According to the police, Aarti, a resident of Mohana in Jalaun's Orai, had gotten married in 2017. Her husband, Devendra, runs a Paani-Puri (golgappa) supply business. Aarti's two brothers-in-law, Pawan and Jitendra, are both sub-inspectors, with Pawan posted in Ghaziabad and Jitendra in Agra.
The family had recently held Jitendra's wedding procession, with the ceremony scheduled to take place in Bareilly on Tuesday. On Sunday, the 'haldi' ceremony was also held. However, around 11 PM on Sunday night, Aarti had an argument with her husband.
In the early hours of Monday morning, around 5:30 AM, Aarti took the diesel bought for a generator and set herself and her two daughters, Pihu (7) and Drishti (5), on fire after locking the door. Hearing her screams, family members and neighbors rushed to their rescue, but by then, Aarti and her elder daughter Pihu had already succumbed to their injuries. The younger daughter, Drishti, was rushed to the hospital but later passed away as well.
The police have confirmed that initial investigations suggest this was a case of suicide, with the family dispute being the primary cause. The woman's parents have accused her in-laws of mental harassment, and the authorities have stated that further action will be taken based on the facts that emerge.
