24 Jul
Summary

- These powers allow them to issue fines for anti-social behaviour.
- The move aims to widen the police family for better issue tackling.

In Torbay town centre, council officers are now empowered to issue fines for anti-social behaviour. This significant expansion of authority has been facilitated by Devon and Cornwall Police through the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS).
Select Torbay Council officers have been granted these additional powers, enabling them to issue fixed penalty fines for specific offenses and request individuals' names and addresses. Inspector Rob Harvey of the police force highlighted the strategy, stating the goal is to "widen that police family" to increase visibility and achieve greater success in tackling community issues.
