Maoist Rebels Surrender in Chatra, Ending Reign of Terror

In a significant development, two senior commanders of the Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), a Maoist splinter group, surrendered before the police in Chatra, Jharkhand on October 13, 2025. The duo, Kunal alias Kuldeep and Rohini Ganjhu, were wanted in a combined total of over 26 criminal cases across Chatra and Palamu districts.
Both the extremists had a reward of ₹1 lakh each on their heads. During the surrender ceremony held at the Collectorate hall, they handed over an SLR rifle, a semi-automatic rifle, and around 200 rounds of live ammunition to the authorities. The event was attended by senior officials, including Bokaro Range IG Sunil Bhaskar, DC Kirti Shree G, SP Sumit Kumar Agrawal, Sashastra Seema Bal DIG Manvendra Kumar Singh, and SSB Commandant Sanjeev Kumar.
According to police records, Kunal and Rohini were involved in multiple killings, encounters, and attacks on security forces in the region. This includes the murder of Pankaj Birhor and his father on May 25, 2024, as well as an assault on an opium eradication team on February 7, 2024. Their surrender is seen as a major blow to the Maoist insurgency in the area and a significant victory for the law enforcement agencies.
